Dear myhosting.com Clients:
At 11:22 PM EDT on March 11th , myhosting.com experienced a hardware failure in its Classic shared hosting environment. The outage impacted one (1) physical system including several hard disks (web3002, web3004, web3005, web3008, web3027, web3034). myhosting.com’s Operations team immediately contacted the hardware vendor who provided hands-on assistance in troubleshooting the matter. The root cause was ultimately found to be the backplane which was then replaced making the system able to properly power on and communicate with the peripherals.
Once the server was able to power on successfully, the RAID needed to be rebuilt as several key hard disks had been marked as bad during the failure. The rebuild of the disk array and restoration of data consumed the remainder of the downtime due to the volume and capacity demands of a shared hosting environment.
myhosting.com’s Operations team performs monthly Disaster Recovery testing on random nodes within each segment of its environment and maintains backups of each node in its environment, this is why we were able to recover to the most recent copy of your website as possible. If there was something to be learned from this experience, it is that Disaster Recovery testing cannot replicate the urgency of a real-life situation but we have a process in place to hopefully reduce the impact you experience.
Thank you for your continued support through this outage.
